Paying
a little extra may not be so bad after all, as many clients are at risk
for athlete's foot and hepatitis B and C due to unsanitary conditions
at nail salons.
There is practically a nail salon on every corner. With competition so
high, nail salons compete for the best bargain. But when it comes to
health and safety, customers should be careful in their selection.
It is the clients right to request clean instruments. One can ask that
the instruments be thoroughly cleansed in their presence. "The best
option would be to bring your own supplies, including your own pedicure
bowl," said Noelle , a weekly customer at L.A. Nails in the lia
Shopping Center. "It may seem a bit much, but it's better to be safe
than sorry."
"I never shave my legs the day before I plan on going to the nail
salon," said Kristen Mason, a frequent customer at the Nail Spa in the
Lia Shopping Center. "Scrapes and cuts can make you more prone to get
an infection."
"Manicurists must sanitize their hands before touching a client's hands
and should ask the client to do the same," said Cosmetology student
Tavia , "Clean towels should be provided for customers to rest their
feet on, and all instruments and pedicure bowl should be thoroughly
cleansed. Also, sponges placed between the toes cannot be disinfected
and should be discarded after use."
